Dance, when you’re broken open. Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you’re perfectly free.

Dustin O’Halloran’s Opus 38

Aaaaawwww yeeeeeeeaah.  THIS is what I’m choreographing to.

Ok so.

I’ve decided that when dance starts back up after break I’m gonna change up the way I do things a little.

I think the reason I don’t improve as quickly as I’d like to is because I don’t have a good system/focus.  So, what I’m going to do, is each month or so, pick just 3 things to really put my energy into visibly improving.  I’ll make a post about it here and stuff, but yeah — hopefully it’s an easier way for me to not be so scattered.  I’ve decided that January’s goals are going to be core strength, posture (especially maintaining it and not opening my ribcage), and keeping my shoulders down. I’m hoping this all really helps my aesthetic, and helps my turns — I think those are my biggest problems.

buuuuuuut

what I wanna know is if you guys would care to see some kind of chronicling of this, or not.  I could take pictures, maybe some videos, and just write about it every week or something.  So yeah…what do you think?

[Flash 10 is required to watch video]

got bored earlier today and made a video of my pointy feet yaaaaay

I wish my metatarsals were more flexible/archy.

Oh yeah I also forgot to tell you guys that I’m gonna start taking bikram over break.  I’m super excited.  Hopefully this leads to +flexiblity and -weight.

anybody else taken it and have any tips for me, except for drink lots of water?

0:56-3:44 is one of my favorite pieces ever.

Guys. How do you prepare for LOTS of petite allegro?

So

a.) Today’s rehearsal was fuckin’ horrendous, due to many things

and

b.)  one of those things is the cramps I got in my feet/calves in one of my numbers.

The last ELEVEN 8-COUNTS of the dance is entirely petite allegro, mostly really small upward stuff like changements, in pointe shoes — plus most of the rest of the dance also being nearly all petite allegro.  My feet usually get pretty crampy even just rehearsing in soft shoes, but lately (especially today) when I do it in pointe shoes my feet and calves started KILLING me.  I’ve never ever had such bad foot cramps as the ones I had today — my feet/calves are still hurting and tight 3 hours later.

so yeah, other than just stretching your calves and plie and what not, what do you guys do to warm up before that much petite allegro?

Their teeny little arms ;___;

She is so teeny.  like why do I even exist what the FAAAHCK
